No GPS fix, or a session with no route

If the sensor never acquires satellites, the session is recorded but has no route, no speed and no distance. Sessions like that are kept private automatically, because there is nothing meaningful to publish.

Give it a fix before you launch

Start the session on the beach, in the open, a minute or two before you go on the water. A cold start needs clear sky, and the first fix of the day takes longest.

What blocks a fix

• Starting indoors, in a car or in a bag. The most common cause by far.
• Wearing it under a wetsuit before it has locked on. Get the fix first, then tuck it away. Once locked, it holds.
• Steep cliffs or a marina wall blocking half the sky.

If it happens repeatedly

Check that your firmware is up to date, since GPS behaviour is one of the things updates improve. Then mail crew@sandit.club with a couple of affected session dates so we can look at what the sensor recorded.
